Mark Zusak
Mark Zusak, author of the Book Thief, was born on June 23, 1975 in Sydney, Australia. He wrote a few books before the Book thief, including The Underdog, Fighting Ruben Wolfe, When dogs cry, and The Messenger, from 1999-2002. In 2005 he wrote the Book Thief. Mark was inspired by all the Nazi Germany stories he heard when growing up in Australia. He heard of Jews being marched to camps and bombings’ in Munich, and he wanted to write a different view point of the Holocaust. He won many awards for the book thief and his other books, including the Bulletin Blue Ribbon Book in 2006 and the Publishers weekly best children book of the year in 2005.
